Two To The Valley
This Sunday night show on 3CR ran for several years until 2010, hosted by Alison Bolger, David Nichols, Duncan Blachford and I (Greg Wadley). We kept playlists on this MySpace page. My shows were often interview-based and I stored some podcasts here:
- 21 Nov 2010 special on Artefacts of Australian Experimental Music volume 2 [mp3]
The second volume of this history of Australian experimental music is a double-cd covering the years 1974 to 1983 and was launched at Iwaki Auditorium on Saturday 27th November. I discussed the the compilation, the series, the launch, and the history of experimental music with series producer Clinton Green and Sam Dunscombe from Golden Fur, who as part of the launch are reinterpreting the 1970s tape-recorder opera 'Atom Bomb'.
- 5 Sep 2010 guest Dave Graney [mp3]
Australian music icon and author Dave Graney spoke mostly about his early career, from the late 70s in South Australia, through his time in London with the Moodists in the 80s, to his mid-90s 'King of Pop' period with the Coral Snakes. We ran out of time there but managed to squeeze in a bit about his new album Supermodified, which consists of 18 'remixes' of his releases since 2000. Great anecdotes and outrageous opinions.
- 22 August 2010 guest Glenn Norman [mp3]
Glenn returns to TTTV with his trademark blend of outsider, punk, experimental, field-recorded and Arabic music, and also gradually "steps sideways" during the show, becoming something of an outsider, punk, experimental guest .. great music and funny commentary
- 30 May 2010 guests Arthur Cantrill and Clinton Green [mp3]
Arthur has been making experimental films since the early 60s, and composing soundtracks to these using techniques including collage, looping and field recording, on technology from tape-decks to computers. Clinton is releasing a cd of the soundtracks to these films on his label. The launch was on Sunday 6th June at ACMI. We talked about all of these.
- 28 March 2010 guest Ian Wadley [mp3]
Ian Wadley has played various instruments in countless bands. In recent years, when not drumming for Minimum Chips, Six Organs of Admittance, Mick Turner or Jandek he has toured the US, UK and Europe, performing solo, instrumental impromptu compositions for guitar. In this show we heard some of this and some early influences.
- 20 March 2010 guest Glenn Norman [mp3]
A Brisbane/Sydney/Melbourne musician, zinester and radio-artist, Glenn's outfits Pork, Volvox and Devotion produced classic Australian outsider un-music. We focussed on Glenn's newer recordings and his interesting approach to producing and releasing culture.
- 14 March 2010 guest Peter Benda [mp3]
A guitarist in several 90s Toronto hardcore/punk bands and now a researcher in Melbourne, Peter discussed Canadian culture old and new - especially punk rock - and offered insights into how differences between Canada and Australia impact the music scene.
- 7 March 2010 guest Simon Grounds [mp3]
Vocalist in 80s Melbourne band 'Shower Scene From Psycho' and producer of a surprising proportion of Melbourne's indie music, Simon has been recording since the days of the first portable 4-track machines and currently works with a combination of analog tape and computer. We focused on "indie recording", who/where/what and how it's changed over the decades.
- 13 Jan 2010 guest Clinton Green [mp3]
A sound-artist under the name Undecisive God, and operator of the Shame File label, Clinton's releases since 1995 include 'Artefacts of Australian Experimental Music: 1930 - 1973'. We discussed this album, Clinton's research into the history of experimental music in Melbourne, and the upcoming Artefacts volume II: 1974-1983 compilation.
- 20 Dec 2009 guest Andrew Bulhak [mp3]
A Melbourne music identity now resident in London, Andrew played and discussed interesting new music from Europe and the UK, focusing on the indie-pop, electro and shoegazer scenes.
